I See You
I see you kneeling beside his bed as you say his prayers and calm his fears.
I see you slip into her room and pray for my angels to surround her and that she would know my love for her above everything else.
I see you as tears roll down your face in the shower wondering where you went wrong.
I see you as you plead with me to save your marriage.
I see you as you beg me to save your children from themselves.
I see you as you lay on the bunk of your jail cell wondering how I could ever possibly forgive you…again.
I see you as you sit in the back pew of the church wondering if you will ever be enough.
I see you as you pick up that needle, hating yourself at the same time you crave relief from the pain.
I see you as you crouch in the corner wondering if the next word or move will bring another blow, another bruise, death.
I see you as you stand at the grave of your baby begging me to let you join him.
I see you as you shuffle through the mail wondering how you will pay the bills and feed your family.
I see you when depression overwhelms your soul and you can’t get out of bed.
I see you when triggers from trauma paralyze you.
Remember my beloved, a teacher is always silent during a test.
It is in the darkness when you don’t feel seen that my light shines the brightest.
When the world feels like it is closing in.
When you wonder where I am and if I see you.
When you can’t see me in the midst of the darkness.
I see you…”fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
