Forgetting What's Behind

We all have things in our life we wish we had done differently.  Regrets of things done and regrets of things not done.  Things we can not change.  Things that sometimes are only revealed with hindsight.  It is easy to get caught up in regrets of the past and take our eyes off of Jesus.

It is not a bad thing to look back at those things but we must not get stuck there.  Looking back magnifies the amazing grace of Christ in our life.  It allows our eyes to be opened to our sin and provides the opportunity for repentance, to take responsibility instead of shifting blame and to make amends.

Just remember friend, those chains the devil is trying to use to paralyze you from moving forward have been broken.  When others try to make you feel guilty for past regrets remember you have been forgiven and washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ.

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ.  He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.  And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Colossians 2:13-15

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.  Brothers and sister I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.  But one thing I do:  Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:12-14

Take a look behind you friend and see all God has done.  Let it remind you of the amazing grace of Jesus Christ.  Let it propel you toward the prize but don’t let it entrap you or let your regret swallow you.  I know this is not easy as some of those things we regret have lasting consequences.

Let me remind you that God brings beauty from ashes.  He can take thorny mistakes and turn them into glorious rose bushes if you leave the bitter root planted, let him cover it with his grace and forgiveness and water it with truth.  You are human and have made mistakes, but most importantly, you are chosen and forgiven.

Much Love,

Chrissy
